15 December 2006
The Anglican Bishop of Tasmania, the Right Reverend John Harrower OAM, will ordain two people at St David's Cathedral, Hobart, this Sunday 17th December, as Deacons.
This is an additional ordination from November's service where 7 people were ordained as Priests and Deacons.
Those to be ordained will both be involved in ministering in Hobart's inner city, John Langlois as Rector of St Georges Battery Point and Paul Chew as assistant to St George's and St David's Cathedral. John has recently returned to Hobart from the US with his wife, Roslyn, where they spent 10 years working with the Christian Performing Arts Fellowship. Both are well known in Hobart through their past work at Clarendon Children's Home, Beth Shalom Community and Youth With A Mission, and Roslyn also through her involvement in the local music community.
Paul is a young Tasmanian who will be working to establish ministry with younger people in the inner city.
Bishop Harrower said, "These two new Deacons bring varied and complementary skills to our church in Hobart's inner city. Paul will be an injection of young energy and enthusiasm and John will bring his many years of wide experience and lifeskills. They are a healthy indication of the breadth of leadership that is coming forward for our church, and will be a great asset to the church and the Tasmanian community."
The ordination service begins at 2pm, Sunday 17th December, at St David's Cathedral, Murray St, Hobart. Media representatives are welcome to attend at any stage during the service. Bishop Harrower and those being ordained will be available for interview after the service (at about 3:30pm) - please feel free to approach the Bishop.
